Foxtail Foible

Well, I guess it wouldn't be Spring if it didn't include a several hundred dollar trip to the vet to remove a foxtail. Last year, Tikka required an emergency room visit due to a huge foxtail in her eye. Yesterday, poor Roman got one up his nose and the vet had to use anesthesia to scope his nasal cavaties. Roman is recovering well; my wallet, not so much! Good thing I have pet insurance now.

I think it might be time to get Tikka another 'foxtail trim'...

Yikes...foxtail magnet!
Last year's cut.... "I really feel naked now!"

Sun Dogs

Rescue dogs turned sled dogs in Jamaica. Who couldn't be tempted to watch such a documentary? It's really more about the people of Jamaica than the dogs, but the dogs still have a strong enough presence to keep me intrigued. A very unique documentary that has me researching bikejoring or canx-ing with Roman...

Lost Weekend

While I often dream of flying, the closest I think I'll come to actually doing it is watching the hang gliders at Ft. Funston. It's quite an awesome sight! How do they take that first step over the cliff?

doG, how do they take that first step?
When I wasn't walking the dogs at Crissy or Ft. Fun this weekend, I was engrossed in the Planet Earth and Blue Planet series.

Finding it really hard to face reality this morning...I might have to introduce the kids to this series since it's so amazing.
"Nice to meet you. Who does your hair?"
"I'm coming, mommy!"
If you keep your eyes pealed, you will often see Mountain Boxers at Ft. Funston (click on pic to get a better view)
Tikka shows off her down stay...

Happy Mother's Day

What happened to my baby?

Happy Mother's Day to all of you mothers and to all of those who support mothers. I had this long, sappy post written in my head but, well...it was just too cliche and I hate cliches (I think this is one of my problems with Eat, Pray, Love...too many cliches in there...). I'm not too hot on sap, either.

Instead, I'll tell you what I had my students make their mothers. They each made a colorful card and on the inside there is a paper vase on one side. The kids filled the vase with flower coupons and wrote why they loved their mom. One child pulled me aside, fretting over what to get his mom. "She will love anything you buy her," I told him. "but you can also give her peace and quiet and that costs nothing!" He got so excited at this and wrote 'peace and quiet' on his flower coupon.

I had a day filled with peace and quiet. Some treasured alone time so I could rejuvenate. I didn't get around to creating any artwork, but the day is not over (though the peace and quiet soon will be...Erik is due home soon). I cleaned like a madwoman yesterday, so I could enjoy a (relatively) hair and clutter free abode today. There is something truly energizing about spending a day deep cleaning and throwing away stuff. No wonder it is the first step in fixing feng shui foibles.

Another Mother's Day gift was the news that my layoff has been rescinded! I'm safe for at least another year, and then I'm up for tenure.

So, things are looking up.

Tikka, (almost) Trained

Tikka's training is...slowly...coming along.

Saturday Morning Roam with Tikka

First, a double tall latte from my favorite Starbucks...

Then, a little Tai Chi to loosen up our...well...chi.

I see this guy 'rowing' every morning on, what looks to be, a surfboard. Who is he?

Ah, the beach...finally. What better way to spend a Saturday morning?

TGIAF

Thank God It's Almost Friday...

Mouths of Babes

Speaking of truth...

Today, my students somehow got on the subject of my age. I was asked how old I was and I replied, truthfully, "42".

One thoughtful 8 year old said, "You are like my dad. He's old, but he looks young..."

Nothing like a second grader to put things in perspective!
